Natalya Goncharova is undoubtedly one of the most well-known faces in Russian volleyball. The 31-year-old is the core player of the Russian national team and Dynamo Moscow. She is known for her outstanding scoring ability, leadership skills and extraordinary vision.
Goncharova was born in a family of athletes in 1989. Her great-grandmother and grandmother were both volleyball players. Both her grandfather and father participated in track and field sports, while her mother was a professional basketball player. Natalia Goncharova and sister Valeria Goncharova first played volleyball in their native Ukraine.
Both of them have entered the youth team of the Ukrainian women's volleyball team. Their first major international achievement was the victory in the 2005 CEV (U17) European Championship. A year later, they won the bronze medal in the CEV (U19) European Championships (Natalia Goncharova was named MVP), and in 2007 entered the FIVB (U20) World Championships in the top six. In 2006, the Goncharova sisters were invited to join the Dynamo Moscow club, and Natalia Goncharova has been playing here ever since.
"I have spent several seasons with Dynamo. I am loyal to my club and hope to stay here for a few more years. Other clubs have also offered offers, and every year I consider various options .But sometimes it’s best to stay in a place where you feel comfortable. This place is important in game planning and attitude. Maybe the financial situation in other places will be better, but for me, always put people first."
In 2010, Goncharova obtained Russian nationality, just in time for the 2010 World Women's Volleyball Championship. Goncharova also won the biggest honor in her career so far-the World Championship champion.
"At the beginning, it was scary for us to go to another country, but the outlook for Russia looks brighter. It is far from my family and it is stressful for the whole family. But my sister and I got a good reception at Dynamo. The head coach Leonid Zayko is like a second father to us, so we stayed and acquired nationality, just after I was A year before they were allowed to participate in the Russian national team, I started training with them and I felt very comfortable."
Ten years later, Goncharova has accumulated 186 blocks in the national team competition. , Scored 2877 points for the national team. In addition to the 2010 World Championships, she also contributed to the Russian women's volleyball team winning the European championship in 2013 and 2015. In the 2019 FIVB Women's Volleyball World Cup, the Russian women's volleyball team won the bronze medal. She was the best in this competition. The best scorers, in addition, they also won the bronze and silver medals in the 2014 and 2015 World Women's Volleyball Grand Prix respectively.
Goncharova, who is 196cm tall, has achieved very good results in the club. They won a total of five national championships, four cup championships, two Super Cup titles and the silver medal in the 2009 UEFA Champions League. However, in the 2019-2020 season, the Dynamo Moscow club performed poorly. They only finished fourth in the league, and they also lost the final of the Russian Cup and failed to enter the semi-finals in the Champions League.
"Every victory brings great fun and satisfaction. I am very happy when we win the European Championship. I always rejoice for every victory of Dynamo Club... . I am very frustrated with the performance of last season. It is of no use to us, I feel very bad. In the new season, I hope we show you that we are Dynamo Moscow and our results last season It was just a coincidence."
Goncharova participated in two Olympic Games-the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics. She is now looking forward to her third Olympic trip, and she hopes to help the Russian women's volleyball team win the championship. In the Olympic qualifiers held in Kaliningrad last August, she was the best offensive player in the event.
"I feel different about the Olympics. For some reason, I am very excited about the Olympics. In London, I am very worried about the first match.Excessive excitement before the game, and this excessive excitement will hinder me, and then this emotion slowly eased. I will feel more responsible, because the Olympics has attracted the attention of many spectators, not just volleyball fans. You don't want to embarrass yourself, you want a good result. "
After making her third appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics next year, Goncharova is only 32 years old, and she has no intention of stopping.
"I never thought about the end of the Olympics. Take a break later or anytime. As long as my health allows, and as long as I feel eager, I will continue to play. If the desire disappears, I think there is no reason to continue to compete, but if I am healthy and have desire, I will compete as much as possible. "
In addition to volleyball, fishing is one of Goncharova's hobbies.
"I have been interested in fishing since I was a child. I often go fishing with my dad, I fell in love with it, it made me very calm. Early morning, silence and fishing rod...I really like all this"
After finishing her volleyball career, Goncharova dreams of developing and running her own business.
" For example, a beauty salon. This sounds very interesting to me. I want to do business and manage my business as if I treat my children. "
